The Cultural Arts Commission was established by a Township ordinance which was approved by the Township Council and Mayor Richard Pucci in June 1998. The function of the Commission, as stated in the ordinance, is to "establish and improve programs, projects and events to foster and bring the cultural arts to the Township for the benefit of the Township's citizens."

For 10 years, the Commission has brought many major concerts to the Center for the Performing Arts, established a free "Music in the Park" concert series each July and sponsored an annual community-wide art exhibit.
